Architect and Building History

The Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Campus Center was designed by Josep Lluis Sert (Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Design from 1953-1969) and completed in 1966 as an administrative building. In April 2016, a large-scale renovation and construction project launched with an ambitious design for rejuvenated indoor and outdoor spaces by the London-based architecture firm, Hopkins Architects. Hopkins Architects partnered with Bruner/Cott Architects (Cambridge, MA) as executive architects, along with Arup, Faithful+Gould, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, and Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates on the Smith Campus Center project.
